The ministry's Director General of Higher Education, Khairul Munadi, delivered this message during an online meeting with 702 scholarship recipients on Friday (February 28).
"Higher education is not just a way to earn an academic degree but also an investment in the future of our nation," he remarked, as quoted in the ministry's statement here on Saturday.
According to the director general, scholarship recipients have a significant responsibility to advance knowledge and contribute to Indonesia’s development.
Munadi highlighted the importance of higher education in cultivating quality human resources and noted that effective communication between the government and academic institutions is important for realizing a productive and competitive research environment.
Meanwhile, Special Staff to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology for Research and Development, I Gede Wenten, emphasized that research is a fundamental pillar in preparing Indonesia for a knowledge-based economy.
He stated that the development of high-quality intellectual property, including innovative patents, largely depends on scientists with strong and competent academic backgrounds.
"Academic and research institutions serve as the backbone of a knowledge-based economy. Strengthening the scientific culture and innovation ecosystem must be a national priority to ensure Indonesia remains globally competitive," he noted.
Wenten reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to promoting a culture of scientific excellence, emphasizing that this effort should be complemented by creativity and self-reliance.
He encouraged scholarship recipients to maximize their contributions, urging them not to let financial constraints hinder their potential.
