Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid has emphasized the importance of aligning the digitization of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with efforts to protect intellectual property (IP) rights to optimize the nation's creativity.

"We must showcase the appeal of our local creative works. Protecting IP rights is not limited to legal aspects but is our way of appreciating the creativity of national talents. I want to see more Indonesian MSME products attracting global attention," she said.

Hafid made the statement after receiving a visit from special presidential envoy for MSMEs, creative economy, and digital affairs, Ahmad Ridha Sabana, at her office in Jakarta on Tuesday, according to a statement received by ANTARA here.

She affirmed that the government remains focused on helping domestic MSMEs embrace digital technology, noting that 50 percent of MSMEs have witnessed a significant increase in their turnover by marketing their products on e-commerce platforms.

"If the rate of digitization among MSMEs rises to 70 percent, our national economy will bloom. We, at the Communication and Digital Affairs Ministry, are ready to fully support this digitization drive through a variety of training sessions and programs," she stated.

In view of this, the minister encouraged Indonesian MSME actors to make the most of social media to expand their market reach.

Meanwhile, Sabana highlighted that 80 percent of the IP rights in Indonesia's creative economy sector have been registered by foreign parties.

This has made it difficult for Indonesian creative economic businesses, especially those operating in Java and Bali, to market their products.

"It is our shared responsibility to overcome this challenge. We want all MSMEs to have their IP rights guaranteed so that they can focus on their work and growth," he said.
