"We want to ensure that the Indonesian music industry not only develops creatively, but also provides sustainable welfare for all stakeholders, including musicians, producers, to those who work behind the scenes,” Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya said in his statement on Sunday.
At the National Music Day, which is celebrated on March 9, the minister invites the people to appreciate the important role of music in the life and culture of Indonesia.
Music, according to him, is not only an artistic expression, but also a national identity and the main driver in the creative economy.
Thus, the National Music Day is a momentum for all elements of the industry to love, support and develop Indonesian music even more.
With strong innovation and collaboration, he said, Indonesian music is expected to be able to reach a wider stage on the international stage.
In order to support the Indonesian music to go global, the government has been promoting hexahelix collaboration as well as conducting training or incubation programs.
As part of efforts to strengthen the music ecosystem, the Ministry of Creative Economy will continue to develop various initiatives, including increasing access to copyright protection, facilitating licensing and supporting music distribution through various digital platforms.
"Music is one of the sub-sectors of the creative economy that has great potential. Therefore, we will continue to create policies that can support the growth of the national music industry to be more competitive," Harsya said.
Celebrating this year’s National Music Day, he invites all musicians, composers, sound engineers, artist managers, producers, record labels, music critics and other professionals to take advantage of this momentum for collaboration and coordination in strengthening the Indonesian music industry.
The government will continue to support the music industry through regulations that favor musicians, adequate infrastructure and various programs aimed at improving the welfare of industry players, he emphasized.
"Let's make Indonesian music a pride for the nation that is able to go global," he concluded.
