"We are committed to expanding the scope of cooperation between universities in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, aiming to deepen our collaboration," he noted in a statement received from his office here on Thursday.
During a meeting with Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN, and Timor-Leste, Faisal Abdullah H. Amodi, in Jakarta on Wednesday, Yuliarto proposed plans for cooperation in various initiatives, including collaboration between academicians and mutually beneficial research projects.
He also shared his personal experience as a researcher, highlighting the partnership he had established with the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), one of the most renowned universities in the Gulf state.
"We are expecting more partnerships to be established between Indonesian professors and prominent universities in Saudi Arabia, partnering in more joint research projects," he remarked.
Furthermore, the minister revealed his ministry's plan to convene once again with the Saudi Arabian government to formulate concrete cooperation plans after the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.
"Our intention is to involve rectors of Indonesian universities to broker cooperation with institutions in Saudi Arabia," he stated.
Saudi Arabian Ambassador Amodi welcomed Yuliarto's initiative while acknowledging that both countries have real opportunities to collaborate in the fields of higher education, science, and technology.
He also highlighted that numerous Indonesian citizens are pursuing their studies in Saudi Arabia.
On that note, Amodi expressed hope that more Indonesian universities would receive accreditation from Saudi Arabian authorities to pave the way for more Saudi citizens to study in Indonesia.
The ambassador also advocated for the establishment of collaborative partnerships between the leading universities of Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
