Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Sugiono has emphasized the importance of advancing just and mutually beneficial trade and investment cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union (EU).

He conveyed this during a meeting with managing director for Asia and the Pacific of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Niclas Kvarnstrom, at the Foreign Ministry's office here on Thursday.

According to a ministry statement received on Friday, Sugiono said that economic stability and a conducive business environment are Indonesia's strategic foundation for bolstering trade relations with the EU.

He also discussed the potential for Indonesia-EU cooperation in sustainable energy, food security, and environmental management with Kvarnstrom.

Besides economic cooperation, the two officials discussed geopolitical issues and emphasized that multilateralism and the supremacy of international law must be maintained to realize global stability.

Sugiono added that Indonesia remains committed to upholding the principles of international law and consensus among international organizations and forums, such as those enacted by the United Nations.

Meanwhile, Kvarnstrom commended Indonesia's economic growth road map and reiterated his support for economic reform and the central government's efficiency initiatives.

He also conveyed the EU's appreciation of Indonesia as a partner in democracy that is committed to multilateralism and a rules-based order.

The EU official said that his side is ready to support green and sustainable development in Indonesia through cooperation in energy transition and environmental management.

According to the ministry's statement, the EEAS managing director came to Jakarta to lead the European Union delegation at the 8th Indonesia-EU Joint Committee Meeting on Wednesday.
