Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Alms Agency (Baznas) is carrying out a program to educate students and teachers in 310 schools across Indonesia about disaster mitigation.

The Head of Baznas' Distribution and Utilization Division, Saidah Sakwan, stated on Sunday that the "Baznas Disaster Response (BTB) Goes to School during Ramadan" program is a concrete step to raise awareness and preparedness in society regarding disasters, particularly among students who receive alms assistance.

"Indonesia is a country vulnerable to various types of disasters. Therefore, early education on disaster mitigation is vital so that the younger generation has a good understanding of how to deal with emergency situations," she said.

Sakwan noted that natural disasters impact not only infrastructure but also the psychological well-being and educational processes of students.

"Every year, thousands of schools are affected by disasters, disrupting teaching and learning activities. Through this program, we want to ensure that students and teachers have the skills to save their lives and recover after a disaster occurs," she explained.

In addition to providing education about disaster mitigation, she mentioned that this program also aims to introduce the concept of alms as part of the solution for disaster response.

"Alms is not just about helping those in need, but also building social resilience in disaster response. Through this education, we hope to increase awareness of the importance of alms in school environments," she explained.

Sakwan expressed hope that this program will reach more schools in the future to create a more resilient, caring, and empathetic generation who can help others during disasters.
