Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia secured support from Chile for its ongoing accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

"We would like to thank Chile for its support of Indonesia's accession and the valuable inputs provided," Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto remarked while receiving Chilean Ambassador Mario Ignacio Artaza in Jakarta on Friday (March 14).

According to a release cited from his office on Monday, the minister also expressed Indonesia's support for Chile's accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which includes countries from the Asia-Pacific region.

During his visit, Ambassador Artaza offered solutions to the challenges Indonesia faces in the accession process and shared Chile’s experiences as one of the countries with the most effective and smooth entry into the organization.

He suggested that Indonesia seek support from other Latin American countries to advance in the accession process.

The Chilean envoy further expressed his government's full support for Indonesia’s membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

He expressed confidence that Chile is a strategic partner for Indonesia on its journey to join both the OECD and the CPTPP, which he views as critical global economic blocs.

Additionally, the two countries, during the meeting, reaffirmed their commitment to finalizing their comprehensive economic partnership agreement (IC-CEPA), with special attention to concluding the investment chapter.

Artaza emphasized that the IC-CEPA is the most comprehensive agreement of its kind for Chile and expressed hope that it would foster more investment opportunities and create a conducive business climate for both nations' enterprises.

On March 11, Ambassador Artaza also met with Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono to discuss similar economic and trade issues.

According to government data, the trade balance between Indonesia and Chile reached US$485.9 million in 2023, resulting in a surplus of US$139.2 million for Indonesia. In 2023, Indonesia’s exports to Chile were worth US$312.6 million, whereas its imports from Chile amounted to US$173.4 million.
