"I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, inaugurate the Batang Industropolis Special Economic Zone, Central Java," he remarked at the inauguration ceremony on Thursday.
He commended the seventh President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, and his ministries for their contributions to the development of this SEZ, which is expected to become a modern industrial center akin to Shenzhen in China.
According to Subianto, the Industropolis SEZ is one of the government's major efforts in building the nation through industrialization and downstreaming.
He highlighted that Indonesia is also building dozens of other SEZs in an effort to reach parity with neighboring countries.
He emphasized that Indonesia should embrace learning from other countries' successes to achieve its primary objective of eliminating poverty and fostering prosperity for all Indonesian people.
"We must eliminate poverty from this country. All of our efforts in development, industrialization, and downstreaming are aimed at building a good future for all our people," the head of state remarked.
Thus, he expressed support for all efforts, initiatives, and innovations from various parties, both private and foreign, to participate in Indonesia's development.
The president highlighted Indonesia's openness to investment and mutually beneficial cooperation to achieve a brighter future for everyone.
Earlier, Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Yusuf Permana stated that the Batang Industropolis SEZ is a transformation of the Batang Integrated Industrial Zone (KITB) designed to stimulate greater investment in Central Java.
He said the government is eyeing to attract investments worth Rp75.8 trillion (US$4.5 billion) into the Batang Industropolis SEZ over the next 5 years while generating employment for 58,145 people.
"The business activities carried out are in the form of manufacturing, logistics, and distribution sectors," Permana outlined.
