Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry supports the development of the solar module industry, a vital element in building solar power plants (PLTS), to optimize the potential of new and renewable energy for electrification.

"We continue to encourage investment in industry, including the solar cell and solar module industry in the context of developing new and renewable energy as well as supporting the net zero emission program," the ministry’s Director of the Machinery and Agricultural Machinery Industry, Solehan, stated here on Tuesday.

Solehan highlighted that Indonesia currently hosts 33 solar module manufacturers, with an annual production capacity reaching 4.3 gigawatts (GW), and each module capable of generating 720 watts.

Demand for solar modules is expanding swiftly due to their necessity in building PLTS or providing electricity for industrial and residential use.

To encourage the development of the industry and other supporting sectors of new and renewable energy, the ministry is implementing a policy of increasing the use of domestic products in the procurement process of renewable energy infrastructure.

For solar power plants specifically, the policy sets the minimum domestic component level (TKDN) for new and renewable energy projects run by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

Solehan explained that the policy of transitioning to clean carbon in 2060 and expanding the share of renewable energy in the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) by 2030 signal the need or potential of a large market for the renewable energy component industry.

"This large market must be utilized as much as possible by the domestic industry," he emphasized. (INE)
