Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has said that at least 3,500 public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLUs) will operate optimally across Indonesia to serve Eid al-Fitr homecoming travelers.

"We have readied around 3,500 SPKLUs with a spacing of 26 kilometers," he informed here on Tuesday.

According to Lahadalia, the distance between SPKLUs has been set at 26 kilometers to make it easier for people to charge their vehicles during the homecoming trip.

He said that the optimization of the number of SPKLUs and their operation have been carried out in line with electric car usage in Indonesia, which has increased by about five to six times.

State-owned electricity company PLN is also providing Mobile SPKLU services in East Java for vehicles that run out of power in the middle of the homecoming trip.

PLN has also rolled out the PLN Mobile application, which has a trip planner feature that includes SPKLU locations, real-time battery percentage, and notification of charging completion.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo has predicted an increasing trend of travelers using EVs for the homecoming as well as SPKLU transactions.

To this end, he assured that 1,680 officers readied by PLN will remain on standby for 24 hours at the SPKLUs.

Earlier, PLN projected that the use of EVs during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr period will increase by 500 percent, or reach 21,570 vehicles, up from 4,314 vehicles in 2024.

The Ministry of Transportation has projected that a total of 146.48 million Indonesians will participate in the 2025 Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus, marking a 24 percent decline from 193.6 million last year.
