"Cooperation between state universities and private universities is crucial in building sustainable innovation," Christie noted in a statement here on Friday.
She emphasized that universities will not develop without the support of an ecosystem that allows lecturers and researchers to innovate continuously.
Christie also reminded universities that research must be carried out systematically and based on evidence to have a real impact on society and the economy.
To this end, universities are expected to continue educating students to have a critical and methodological mindset in research. This is considered essential for building a research-based academic culture.
"Good research must have a clear impact. We are not only doing research for academics but also for the wider community," she remarked.
The deputy minister also cited survey data showing that critical thinking skills, decision-making, and the ability to solve complex problems are needed in today's workforce.
To support academic development, Christie affirmed that the government continues to increase the capacity of lecturers through master's and doctoral programs scholarships funded by the Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education Agency (LPDP) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
She emphasized that increasing the number of lecturers with doctoral degrees is one of the priority programs in higher education policies in Indonesia.
Christie also highlighted the importance of the participation of the private sector and regional governments in supporting research at universities.
According to the deputy minister, this collaboration will help create evidence-based solutions that can be applied in various sectors, such as agriculture and regional development.
"Lecturers and researchers are the backbone of innovation. We must create an environment that allows them to develop and create quality research," she emphasized.
