Deputy for information dissemination and media at the PCO, Noudhy Valdryno, told the press here on Wednesday that wisely selecting and spreading information would help maintain unity and strengthen solidarity.
"Like what has been conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto, the spirit of Eid al-Fitr should be used as a momentum for us to strengthen the nation's unity and social solidarity, not the other way around," he added.
Valdryno further said that everyone has a role in fighting hoaxes, misinformation, and disinformation. To this end, the ability to select information and recheck sources and the veracity of information has become more relevant.
He explained that there are three threats related to information, namely, misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation.
"Misinformation is the spread of false information due to ignorance, without the intention to deceive others. This often happens when someone spreads information without verifying its truth," he explained.

He added that disinformation refers to the intentional spread of false information by someone who knows that the information is false.
"The spread is indeed done intentionally with bad intentions. If you find such information, immediately report it to the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs via aduankonten@mail.kominfo.go.id," he added.
Meanwhile, malinformation is information that is true, but is delivered in the wrong context, or at the wrong time, he said.
He then highlighted the importance of the community using the right sources of information.
"Amid the digital era, we often get caught up in misleading information, especially with the presence of various social media platforms. Various official accounts of the government can become verifiers for the community with accurate and trustworthy data," he said.
