Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has ordered an investigation into the alleged incident of violence against an ANTARA photojournalist at Tawang Station, Semarang, Central Java, on Saturday (April 5).

"I just heard about it from the news, and if it is true, I am very sorry for the incident because our relationship with the media is very good. I will investigate and follow up on this," he remarked here on Sunday (April 6).

He also extended an apology for the incident. "Personally, I apologize for the incident and the discomfort it caused to the media," he remarked.

Prabowo noted that his side is investigating whether the alleged perpetrator of the violence was not his aide.

"I am calling to investigate it because I also just found out after it appeared in the media. It seems that it was not an aide but rather a member of the security personnel," he remarked.

Regarding this incident, ANTARA news agency expressed regret and demanded that the National Police take responsibility for the alleged violence by the Police Chief's aide against its photojournalist.

"Such incidents should not happen again. It is very regrettable. The press crew were doing their job to help cover the National Police Chief's activities," ANTARA News Director, Irfan Junaidi, stated on Sunday.

He also urged the National Police to take responsibility and process the alleged individual involved in the incident according to procedures.

According to Junaidi, ANTARA is committed to performing its journalistic duties in a professional and objective manner.

"Therefore, we request that the National Police and other parties support these (journalistic) duties under any circumstances," he affirmed.
