Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed his commitment to making protein-rich food, such as meat, eggs, and milk, more affordable for all Indonesians.

During his speech on the stability of national food prices at the rice harvest in Majalengka on Monday, Prabowo outlined his goal to achieve this by 2026 at the latest.

"(This is) so (that) all people can increase their protein intake. Protein is important for younger generations. They should be able to consume protein at affordable prices," he emphasized.

On the occasion, the president also praised the Agriculture Ministry for its efforts in stabilizing food prices in the past few months.

According to Prabowo, this success is a real result of consistent leadership and fieldwork.

“For the first time in years, food prices are under control. I would like to thank the agriculture team, under the coordination of the coordinating minister for food, the minister of agriculture, and all those who have worked very hard,” the head of state remarked.

He then highlighted the role of Agriculture Minister, Andi Amran Sulaiman, who often undertook visits to various regions.

“Every time I look for him, he is in the rice fields, in the regions. Today, in West Kalimantan, tomorrow in Merauke and then in Lampung. He always works hard and goes to the field," the president stated.

Based on the commitment from all levels of government, Prabowo said Indonesia has succeeded in maintaining food security amid global challenges.

Highlighting Indonesia's achievements in food security amid global shortages, he noted that while other countries faced deficits in items such as rice and eggs, Indonesia was able to record a surplus and begin exporting eggs.

"We are able to export eggs. Eggs are in surplus, and the price is starting to go down,” he noted.

However, the president continues to aim for more affordable prices for eggs, meat, and milk to be made available to the public for at most one year.

He underscored the importance of availability and access to protein sources, especially for the growth of Indonesian children.

"I ask the minister of agriculture, deputy minister, and all elements to work even harder. Our people, especially the younger generations, should be able to enjoy protein at affordable prices," he emphasized.
