"My plan today is to coordinate with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to finalize the draft of technical instructions for the Sekolah Rakyat Program," Yusuf stated after chairing a roll call at his ministry's headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The minister noted that the draft, which spans 100 pages, provides guidelines for teacher recruitment, student admission, and other essential aspects of the program, an initiative aimed at offering equal access to quality education for children from economically disadvantaged families.
In parallel with the drafting process, Yusuf highlighted that the Ministry of Social Affairs has been working to map and identify prospective educators and students residing in or near the 53 regions declared ready to implement the program in the upcoming academic year.
The minister explained that his team is using the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) to scout families categorized as poor or extremely poor.
"After categorizing them, we will determine if they have children of elementary, junior high, or senior high school age," he pointed out.
Yusuf assured the public that his ministry is exerting its utmost to finalize both the technical instructions and mapping processes so that teacher recruitment and student admission can begin this month as planned.
"We aim to begin recruitment and admission in April. After identifying the targeted teachers and students in 53 regions, we will proceed with family interviews, medical exams, and administrative matters," he remarked.
Additionally, the minister emphasized that the free school program will launch once everything is ready.
