Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir, here on Friday, accentuated the importance of the Garuda Academy program in the efforts to develop Indonesian football.

Garuda Academy is a program focused on the development of sports management in the country. This program is fully supported by the AFC and FIFA.

He said that the Garuda Academy program goes beyond just the on-field aspect.

"It is not sufficient to develop football just within the field," he stated, as quoted from his official Instagram account post.

He explained that the Garuda Academy will provide opportunities for young people and sports practitioners to study sports management through a curriculum directly supported by FIFA and AFC.

Thohir also noted that this program is part of his efforts to build a long-term ecosystem for football in Indonesia. The program will provide support to active and former players, as well as all Indonesians with an interest in entering the sports management field.

"We want to build a long-term ecosystem for Indonesian football," he added.

PSSI is keen on the Garuda Academy developing and enhancing the quality of sports management in Indonesia, particularly in football.

Garuda Academy offers world-class sports management education that is affordable for everyone in the country. This program provides high-level education at a significantly lower cost.

The goal of this program is to help everyone in Indonesia acquire relevant skills so they can passionately develop sports.

Thohir met with AFC Secretary General Windsor John in Jakarta on March 12.

"We will conduct a selection for scholarship recipients who will be supported by the Endowment Fund for Education Agency (LPDP) to pursue sports education at prestigious universities around the world," he remarked.
