Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of National Police (Polri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo urged Indonesians observing Good Friday to reflect on its sacred significance as a means to strengthen national unity.

"Let us use this moment as an opportunity to contemplate, renew our faith, and deepen our love as a foundation to solidify our unity," he noted in a statement here on Friday.

He stated that national unity will serve as a tool to realize the aspirations of an Advanced Indonesia and the 2045 Golden Indonesia.

Prabowo also conveyed his greetings to Christians celebrating Good Friday.

The Polri chief emphasized in his statement that Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross represents redemption for humanity’s sins, founded on Jesus’ love.

"On the cross, Jesus Christ surrendered His life to redeem the sins of humanity -- not because we are worthy, but out of His immense and unconditional love," he stated.

Prabowo believes that Christians can draw valuable messages and lessons from this event.

"This moment reminds us that behind suffering, there is hope; behind pain, there is salvation; and behind death, there is new life," he remarked.

Good Friday is one of the major holidays in Christian tradition, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ at Calvary. This holy day falls on the Friday before Easter Sunday and is also known as Holy Friday, Black Friday, or Good Friday.
During the commemoration of Good Friday, Christians remember Jesus' sacrifice, who suffered and died on the cross as a redemption for humanity's sins. This event marks the culmination of Jesus' mission during his life on Earth.
