Jakarta (ANTARA) - Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Minister Maman Abdurrahman has advised banks disbursing low-interest People's Business Credit (KUR) to form a support team for MSMEs to reduce non-performing loans (NPL).

During a KUR financing cooperation signing in Jakarta on Friday, he said banks disbursing KUR can emulate the success of state-run microlender Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), which has managed to keep its NPL rate below one percent.

According to Abdurrahman, one of the measures taken by PNM to achieve this was forming a support team.

He also asked the 46 banks that disburse KUR to follow the PNM's step of allocating a small portion of profits for operational costs for assisting MSMEs.

"Why don't you allocate 1 percent or 1.5 percent for the operations of assisting MSMEs?" the minister told the banks.

He said the presence of a support team would be effective in providing guidance to customers, especially in terms of financial management and business management.

With the right mentoring, it is hoped that MSMEs receiving KUR can avoid defaulting on loans.

He noted that the NPL rate in credit disbursed to MSMEs tends to be higher.

However, according to the minister, the figure of four percent is still tolerable. Efforts are still needed to reduce this figure.

According to the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the NPL of MSMEs reached 4.03 percent in January 2025, lower than 4.05 percent in January 2024.

The NPL of MSMEs was above four percent for several months in 2024, with the highest figure recorded in May 2024 at 4.27 percent.
