Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesians must not remain artificial intelligence (AI) users, but become AI developers and entrepreneurs, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said.

"Indonesia must not solely become an AI user, but should also be a smart AI user, and capable of being a smart AI developer and smart AI entrepreneur," he stressed during a ministerial-level meeting here Tuesday.

He noted that the development of AI technology is currently progressing at a very rapid pace and leaving a significant impact on various aspects of life.

He added that AI is evolving not just month by month, but even week by week.

AI is making human work more productive and accurate, including work in research and analysis, he said.

However, he stressed the importance of adopting a wise and critical attitude regarding AI use.

According to the minister, AI is not entirely neutral and needs to be managed to maximize its benefits and minimize negative impacts.

AI development, he said, must involve all elements of society by increasing digital literacy from an early age.

To this end, he informed that the government has prepared a curriculum for basic to secondary education levels that emphasizes strengthening learners' logic, numeracy, and critical thinking.

"This is to create a strong foundation so that the younger generation can become wise AI users and future AI developers," he explained.

Pratikno also highlighted the importance of support from higher education and research institutions, as well as the business world, for producing outstanding talent in the field of AI.

He said he believes that Indonesia must seek AI sovereignty to ensure that national data management remains secure and relevant to local contexts.
