Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports will directly handle the preparation of athletes from three sports—table tennis, boxing, and climbing—for the SEA Games in Thailand from December 9–20, 2025.

"We will manage the preparations for boxing, table tennis, and climbing (athletes) for the SEA Games," Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo told the media here on Tuesday.

He said that his ministry will prepare athletes from the three sports to ensure they can continue competing in the regional multi-sport event, following issues affecting the sports' governing organizations, particularly table tennis and boxing.

The table tennis sports organization has faced dual governance for over 10 years.

Meanwhile, boxing athletes are no longer overseen by the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina) after Pertina's expulsion from the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI).

Minister Ariotedjo further revealed that the ministry will hold a national selection to choose the best athletes to compete in the 2025 SEA Games.

He said that the central management of the Indonesian Climbing Federation (PP FPTI) has asked the ministry to prepare the climbing athletes for the SEA Games, which are held every two years.

"There are no issues regarding the climbing federation, but Mrs. Yenny Wahid (chairperson of PP FPTI) requested that all preparations be managed by the ministry," he informed.

The minister assured that though some sports branches do not yet have new organizations, the athletes will still be taken care of so that they can compete and excel in international championships.
