Speaking before hundreds of thousands of laborers at the commemoration of May Day, he projected discussions on the PPRT Bill to conclude within the next three months.
"We will immediately pass the PPRT Bill. Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad informed that the House will start discussing the bill next week," Prabowo stated during the International Labor Day (May Day) commemoration in Monas, Jakarta, on Thursday.
Ratifying the PPRT Bill into law is one of the six demands raised by the labor group on May Day 2025.
The other five demands are eliminating the outsourcing system, establishing a Layoff Task Force, realizing a living wage, protecting workers by ratifying the new Manpower Bill, and eradicating corruption by ratifying the Asset Confiscation Bill.
On a separate occasion, Deputy Speaker Dasco confirmed that the plan to discuss the PPRT Bill had received approval from House Speaker Puan Maharani.
He noted that the House had taken into account the aspirations of labor groups, including the proposal to form a task force to mitigate layoffs by companies, and had conveyed those aspirations to the government.
Meanwhile, the PPRT Bill has been proposed since 2004, or over two decades. The Bill was first proposed by the National Domestic Workers Advocacy Network (JALA PRT) in 2004 to the Indonesian House of Representatives.
The bill was also included in the national legislative program (prolegnas) for 2010–2014 and re-entered the prolegnas in the 2019–2024 period.
Records from JALA PRT showed over 3,308 cases of violence against domestic workers from 2021 to February 2024.
Meanwhile, data from the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) recorded 2,344 cases of violence against domestic workers from 2005 to 2022.
