Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is prioritizing the use of domestic spices in catering services for Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, according to Muchlis M Hanafi, the Religious Affairs Ministry's Director of Overseas Hajj Services.

"We are prioritizing domestic products for our spice ingredient needs, totaling 611 tons, of which 475 tons are supplied from Indonesia," Hanafi stated during a virtual press conference on the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage implementation in Jakarta on Sunday.

He mentioned that during their stay in Saudi Arabia, each Hajj pilgrim will be provided with 127 meals, bringing the total food provisions for this year's pilgrimage to 25.8 million meal boxes.

"We are collaborating with 55 catering companies in Mecca and 21 companies in Medina," Hanafi said.

He added that food distribution becomes particularly challenging during the peak of the Hajj season due to heavy traffic in Mecca.

To address this, they have prepared 2.4 million ready-to-eat meal packages containing typical Indonesian food such as opor ayam (chicken in coconut milk) and rendang (spicy meat stew), produced by Indonesian companies.

"Besides being practical, this also supports our local products' participation during the Hajj season," Hanafi said.

He assured that all services for Indonesian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia have been fully prepared.

"As of today, all services for Indonesian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia are 100 percent ready," Hanafi stated.

The Indonesian government has prepared a range of services for Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia covering five key aspects: accommodation, transportation, catering, general services, and services during the peak Hajj season.

Indonesian Hajj pilgrims began departing for Mecca on May 2, 2025, and will stay in Saudi Arabia for approximately 40 days.
