Jakarta (ANTARA) - Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani announced plans to form a philanthropic body, Danantara Trust, and invited the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to collaborate.

He stated that the Danantara Trust philanthropic body is intended to allocate 1-2.5 percent of Danantara's annual dividends to philanthropy.

"We have run the numbers, and at the beginning of the year, we will put in US$100 million. In the next five to six years, we can give US$1 billion to the Danantara Trust Fund," he stated during a press conference at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Roeslani explained that the Danantara Trust will support empowerment programs in various fields, including education and health.

He said this plan had been communicated to the Gates Foundation on Tuesday. The foundation is invited to contribute funds to the Danantara Trust account.

A similar invitation was extended by Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, to Bill Gates.

Sadikin noted that Danantara Trust would likely resemble the Temasek Trust in Singapore.

He expressed confidence that Bill Gates' involvement in Danantara Trust would help build broader trust and encourage more contributions to the institution.

"We will continue the discussion with his team. They have appointed their representatives to discuss this matter with us," Roeslani stated.

President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Gates at the Merdeka Palace on Wednesday at around 8 a.m. local time. The two spoke for around two hours at the Merdeka Palace.

Some of the topics discussed included the TB vaccine trial in Indonesia, where the Gates Foundation is currently funding research and trials of the tuberculosis (TB) vaccine, which has entered the clinical trial stage in several countries.

Several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet accompanied the president during the meeting, including Minister of Investment and Downstream and CEO of Danantara Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
