During a meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Indonesia, Roberto Colamine, in Jakarta on Friday, he emphasized that the Indonesian government is prioritizing the green economy, technological self-sufficiency, and the strengthening of national industries.
“Indonesia is currently working to modernize its fishing fleet to strengthen food security and support the sustainable growth of the maritime economy,” he remarked, according to a statement from his ministry.
Sugiono noted that cooperation with Italy could play a significant role in helping Indonesia achieve its national targets in key sectors.
Indonesia also invited Italy to increase investment in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Furthermore, the minister and ambassador discussed strengthening defense cooperation between Indonesia and Italy, particularly in the procurement of military equipment.
Sugiono emphasized that, going forward, cooperation in this sector must go beyond procurement to include technology transfer, joint production, and capacity building to foster independence in the national defense industry.
He noted that his meeting with the Italian ambassador reflected both countries' commitment to optimizing the potential for cooperation that is mutually beneficial and continues to provide positive results both at the bilateral level and in international forums.
According to the ministry's statement, Roberto Colamine was one of the eight ambassadors who presented their letters of credence to President Prabowo Subianto on May 6, 2025.
Italy is Indonesia's third-largest trade partner in Europe, with bilateral trade reaching US$3.95 billion in 2024. In the same year, Italy's investment in Indonesia totaled US$70.5 million, marking a 46 percent increase from the previous year.
