The national survey, which is the main reference for accelerating stunting reduction, recorded a decrease in the national stunting prevalence from 21.5 percent in 2023 to 19.8 percent in 2024.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, in a statement on Tuesday, reiterated the government's commitment to reducing the national stunting rate to 14.2 percent in 2029 in accordance with the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) target.
"This target is not easy but quite challenging to achieve. From 21.5 percent in 2023, we must reduce it to 14.2 percent by 2029. We must be able to reduce stunting by around 7.3 percent in five years," he emphasized.
The 2024 SSGI result is the product of collaboration across various sectors, covering 38 provinces and 507 districts and cities throughout Indonesia.
According to Head of the Health Development Policy Agency, Asnawi Abdullah, this survey involved independent survey institutions and reputable conservation partners to maintain data validity.
Meanwhile, Ukik Kusuma Kurniawan, Deputy for Family Development Strategy Policy, Population Control, and Family Planning at the Ministry of Population and Family Development, explained that SSGI data is a strategic tool for formulating policies and designing concrete strategies.
"This SSGI data is considered strategic and useful for drafting policy programs and strategies to reduce stunting in Indonesia," Kurniawan remarked.
He noted that one of his party's flagship (quick win) programs is the Foster Parents Movement to Prevent Stunting (Genting).
Since its launch on December 5, 2024, the program has engaged 20,396 foster parents to support 141,382 foster children.
He emphasized that SSGI plays a vital role in utilizing data as information and education for foster parents.
"We must provide Genting foster parents with information regarding stunting prevalence as our shared responsibility. We also convey the data to stakeholders," he disclosed.
