Indonesia’s Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, said the partnership marks a significant step in enhancing the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s creative industries while developing local talent.
“We will facilitate the exchange of creative economy players between both countries, allowing them to learn from each other and gain deeper industry insights,” Harsya said after meeting French Culture Minister Rachida Dati on Wednesday.
The collaboration focuses on five creative economy sub-sectors: gaming, film, design, fashion, and crafts.
Several programs will be launched soon, including fashion exchange training through the Lakon brand and film residency initiatives.
Indonesian creatives will have the opportunity to study at top fashion schools in France, while French professionals will share their expertise in Indonesia.
Harsya also highlighted the potential for expanded business-to-business (B2B) partnerships, citing a French game company’s investment in Yogyakarta as an example. The venture has created local jobs and enabled technology transfer to Indonesian developers.
Beyond trade and investment, the partnership is expected to promote cultural diplomacy and foster innovation, workforce development, and greater access to global markets.
“This collaboration marks a new chapter in bilateral synergy. Through consistent joint initiatives, we are confident it will make a lasting contribution to GDP through the creative economy,” Harsya stated.
