Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Viada Hafid and Malaysian Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil have agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation between Indonesia's ANTARA and Malaysia's BERNAMA news agencies.

Fadzil, in a post on his official social media account on Saturday, stated that the agreement was reached during their meeting in Tokyo, Japan.

"One of the main points agreed upon was efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation between BERNAMA (Malaysia) and ANTARA (Indonesia), including the exchange of news materials, cross-border coverage, as well as sharing resources and professional training," he remarked.

He emphasized that strengthening cooperation between news agencies is crucial to ensure both institutions remain relevant, credible, and capable of delivering accurate and balanced information to the public in their respective countries.

Fadzil noted that the meeting covered various important aspects of bilateral cooperation, especially in communication, media, and digital infrastructure, aligning with the increasingly complex and interconnected regional information landscape.

He also remarked that the discussion took place in a very positive and warm setting, reflecting the strong spirit of regional cooperation between the two countries.

Additionally, both ministers emphasized the important role of the Malaysian-Indonesian Journalists Association (ISWAMI) in strengthening media relations between the two countries.

The Malaysian official emphasized that ISWAMI not only serves as a bridge for strengthening the network of professional journalists but also acts as a catalyst for mutual understanding among members of the community through a more inclusive and visionary narrative.

"With a strong neighborly spirit and shared values, we are confident that Malaysia and Indonesia can continue to expand cooperation in communications for the benefit and good of the people of both countries," Fadzil remarked.
