“The vision of IKN is to create a city that upholds tolerance and harmony among religious groups,” Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono stated when asked about the religious facilities in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara, on Tuesday.
He noted that the symbol of inclusivity and harmony at the heart of Indonesia’s new capital is reflected in the worship complex currently under construction.
The complex will include a national mosque, a pura (Hindu temple), a vihara (Buddhist monastery), a kelenteng (Chinese temple), as well as Christian and Catholic churches, representing the future capital as an inclusive city that embraces diversity.

The ongoing construction focuses first on the national mosque, with the Catholic church scheduled to be built next.
He explained that building these houses of worship within a single complex is not merely a physical project but carries a profound philosophical meaning, embodying a firm commitment to tolerance and harmony among religious communities in IKN.
“Providing worship facilities for the community is essential and forms part of the symbol of harmony in the Indonesian capital,” he affirmed.
He emphasized that the Indonesian capital is being developed as an inclusive, multicultural area, not dominated by any single ethnic or religious group.
