Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Sugiono received a visit from the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) and the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to ASEAN at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Thursday.

The meeting discussed the plan for implementing the ASEAN Community Vision (ACV) 2045, according to a press statement issued by the ministry the same day.

"We need to strengthen ASEAN mechanisms, one of which was the CPR and the Jakarta channel, as well as strengthen the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta to optimize our potential in responding to challenges in the region and globally," Sugiono said.

Community Vision 2045 envisages a strong, innovative, dynamic, and community-centered ASEAN. It is a strategic guideline for the steps that ASEAN must take in the next 20 years to achieve this.

Sugiono emphasized the important role of the CPR in advancing the development of the ASEAN Community, effective cross-pillar ASEAN coordination, and relations with ASEAN's external partners.

"The important role of the CPR was one of the keys to achieving ACV 2045," he said.

He also lauded the significant progress made within the ASEAN cooperation framework, especially after the ratification of ACV 2045 at the 46th ASEAN Summit in May in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The minister also praised Timor-Leste, which will officially become the 11th member of ASEAN this year.
