Entis Sutisna, an economic expert from Yapis Papua University, said the visit was particularly significant given Nduga’s status as a conflict-prone area.
“We see the visit as a testament to the central government’s commitment to supporting development in a conflict-prone region. It also demonstrates that security in the area is being ensured,” he told ANTARA in Jayapura, Papua, on Monday.
He added that the ministers’ presence signals the government’s intent to better understand local conditions.
“The two ministers were present at the same time, sending a strong message that the state is genuinely eager to identify the actual needs of this vulnerable region,” he noted.
Sutisna further said the visit could help improve coordination on budget allocations for security measures or other initiatives to accelerate progress in Nduga district.
“That said, the visit was not merely ceremonial—it reflects the central government’s commitment to addressing complex issues through a holistic approach,” he emphasized.
Earlier, on June 7, 2025, Indrawati and Sjamsoeddin visited Kenyam, the capital of Nduga district, to assess the condition of National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel stationed in the conflict-prone area.
Head of the Defense Ministry’s Information Bureau, Brig. General Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, explained that the visit also aimed to strengthen coordination between defense policy and government budgeting to support national security and stability.
“National defense requires financial support—and in return, a strong defense contributes to economic resilience, ultimately strengthening the country’s fiscal capacity,” he said.
Wearing bulletproof vests, the ministers reviewed soldiers’ equipment and combat readiness to ensure accountability in defense spending, which is funded and overseen by the Ministry of Finance.
