President Prabowo wants all levels of society to get direct benefits from government programs, he added.
While joining deliberations on village cooperatives in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday, he said that President Prabowo has called for accelerating the establishment of such cooperatives.
Sugiarto noted that once the cooperatives are set up, village governments would be able to form business units that match their respective potential. The loan ceiling for each cooperative has been set at Rp3 billion (around US$184,415).
He suggested that the business units cater to the needs of the community, for instance, by selling cooking oil. Currently, the government is striving to expedite village deliberations on the establishment of the cooperatives.
He emphasized that regional governments can help village cooperatives, especially in terms of providing financing for obtaining business permits. He added that the government will assist in the management of the cooperatives.
Sugiarto further noted that the establishment of village cooperatives in West Java has reached 99 percent completion.
The Indonesian government is seeking to establish as many as 80 thousand Red and White Village Cooperatives across the country.
To advance these efforts, President Prabowo has issued Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2025 on the Acceleration of the Red and White Village Cooperatives' Formation.
The cooperatives are envisioned as hubs for economic and social services in village communities, offering savings, loans, and clinic services, among other benefits.
