Director of Marine Resources at the ministry’s Directorate General of Marine Management, Frista Yorhanita, said the ministry plans to develop K-SIGN over an area spanning 10,000 to 13,000 hectares.
However, due to limited budget resources, the government is inviting investors to participate in the development.
“The government’s budget is limited, so we will invite investors,” she said at the ministry’s office here on Wednesday.
She explained that the salt industry center will consist of 10 zones. The ministry will fully manage Zone 1, while the remaining zones will be handed over to investors.
She said the management of zone 1 will be handed over to PT Garam, which is a part of the MSME food holding ID FOOD. The company will manage production from upstream to downstream.

Additionally, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will collaborate with local governments to involve around 26,000 community members as workers.
Yorhanita expressed hopes that the area will become an integrated industrial zone for both production and marketing.
“We hope that the area will truly become an integrated industrial area—from salt production to processing and distribution, reaching markets throughout Indonesia,” she added.
Meanwhile, the president director of PT Garam, Abraham Mose, said that several domestic and foreign investors are interested in building factories in the salt industrial area.
However, he could not provide further details as there are still business matters to be considered. "With the closure of imports, many foreign parties have expressed interest in investing, and we are open to the development,” he added.
