Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Sugiono on Thursday said that Indonesia is committed to ensuring fair and inclusive infrastructure development to support the poorest and most vulnerable communities.

He then invited all global stakeholders to join Indonesia in building sustainable, fair, and inclusive infrastructure.

“We stand ready to facilitate and look forward to meaningful and tangible collaboration,” he said at the International Conference on Infrastructure (ICI), which was followed online from Jakarta on Thursday.

Infrastructure development is not only about building physical objects, but also enlivening communities and improving the quality of life of the people, he added.

“This is also in line with the goals of sustainable development,” he said, adding that Indonesia is trying to implement a new public-private partnership (PPP) model, as an extension of the classic PPP model, by involving local communities in projects.

According to the minister, Indonesia is also trying to strengthen multilateral platforms to align standards, funding, impact, and inclusiveness.

Like many other developing countries, it is also facing a significant infrastructure financing gap, he noted.

The country will need around US$280 billion by 2030 for climate action. However, only 30 percent of the funds can be sourced through public funding, Sugiono highlighted.

Many domestic-oriented policies could also potentially affect international development cooperation and complicate funding access.

Therefore, Sugiono urged all related parties to try to find common ground and work together to overcome these problems.
