Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized that food security will remain his government’s priority in the first two to three years of its term.

After the closing of the International Conference on Infrastructure (ICI) 2025 here on Thursday, he said that food production in Indonesia has reached its highest level since the nation’s founding.

“Our food production and reserves, especially rice and corn, are currently the largest in Indonesia’s history. Whether acknowledged or not, the rice reserves at the government’s warehouses have reached a record high,” he expounded.

The President also highlighted the advancement of agricultural technology that has helped boost productivity in several regions.

There has been a significant increase in productivity in South Sumatra, where rice production is expected to jump by 48 percent this year, he noted.

“From 3 to 4 tons of paddy per hectare, it has now reached 6 to 8 tons. In some areas, farmers can even harvest four times a year,” he said.

This is not only a national, but a global achievement, he added.

He then stressed the importance of maintaining the momentum and ensuring that all food policies are oriented toward national self-sufficiency and farmers’ prosperity.

Earlier, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman announced that the government’s rice reserve stock, currently managed by the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), has exceeded 4 million tons.

“Hopefully, this year, there will be no imports (of rice),” he said at a press conference at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on June 2, 2025.
