KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the anti-graft body is pushing for such measures uncovering various corruption-related issues in the education sector, such as bribery, extortion, and gratuities during student enrollment processes.
"Secondly, the lack of transparency in quotas and requirements in SPMB opens opportunities for bribery, extortion, or gratification," Prasetyo told ANTARA here on Monday.
He further explained that the third issue concerns the misuse of special admission tracks, including those for academic achievement, affirmative action, parental job transfers, or residential zoning.
"Fake certificates are often used to qualify for the achievement track. For instance, tahfiz Al-Quran (Quran memorization) achievements are only recognized for followers of a certain religion, thus not accommodating all religious groups," he pointed out.
Regarding the affirmative action track in SPMB, Prasetyo said that some prospective students deemed financially capable were still listed in the National Socioeconomic Single Data (DTSEN), which is intended for identifying people in need of government assistance.
Meanwhile, the job transfer track currently only accommodates civil servants and state-owned enterprise (SOEs) employees, leaving out parents working in the private sector.
"In the zoning track, document falsification involving family cards (KK) and ID cards (KTP), or the creation of temporary residence change certificates often occurs," he added.
He further drew attention to another issue of misuse of the School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds, which are sometimes not used as intended. In several instances, he explained that accountability reports for BOS fund usage lack proper supporting documentation.
"One common BOS misuse is the collusion between schools and local education offices to manipulate student numbers," he explained.
