By law, the ministry is authorized to arrest foreign fishing vessels caught operating illegally in the country’s maritime territory and conduct preliminary investigations prior to trial, a top official of KKP said here Monday.
Director General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance, Pung Nugroho Saksono, stated that the investigation covered two Vietnamese vessels and four Philippine ships.
The two Vietnamese vessels are KM 936 TS alias KG 93682 TS and KM. 95762 TS (Vietnam), while four Philippine ships comprise FB.ST.LB Peter&Paul-GB, KM M/BCa Christian Jame, KM F/B Twin J-04, and KM F/B Yanreyd-293.
Meanwhile, Director of the Marine Resources and Fisheries Supervision at the ministry Teuku Elvitrasyah said the dossiers of this IUU fishing case had been received by public prosecutors' offices.
The ministry has also handed over all suspects and physical evidence of their crimes to the public prosecutors' offices, he said, adding that the probe into six other IUU fishing cases is still underway.
The IUU fishing cases involve vessels from the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia: KM M/BCA Omrad 01, KM KG 6219 TS, KM KG 6277 TS, KM TW 7329/6/F, KM SLFA 5210, and KM SLFA 4584, he said.
In addition, the case of China's KM FV Yue Lu Yu is handed over by KKP to Bali Police's Water and Air Police Directorate after finding an indication that the Chinese vessel involved in human trafficking operation, he added.
