In a statement received here on Wednesday, SBY said that as APLMA's special advisor, he is committed to helping Indonesia succeed in reaching the target, by establishing collaboration with global organizations dedicated to malaria eradication worldwide.
He pointed out that although malaria is most severe in the African region, the Asia Pacific, including Indonesia, must also take malaria elimination seriously, as it is also a matter of humanity and equity.
SBY acknowledged that eliminating malaria is no easy feat, requiring substantial funding, multilateral efforts, and public participation, but he believes the challenge can be overcome through collective action and innovations.
"Remember, there is always a way out and solutions to address those challenges," SBY noted.
He expressed gratitude to international partners who have supported Indonesia in its quest to eliminate malaria. Moreover, SBY expressed confidence that under President Prabowo Subianto's leadership and Health Minister Budy Gunadi Sadikin's directives, the goal can be achieved on schedule.
“We have the technical expertise, the innovation, and the regional momentum to succeed because every life saved, every community protected, every child who grows up free from malaria, is a victory for humanity,” SBY remarked.
Indonesia, in partnership with the Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance (APLMA), hosted the 9th Asia Pacific Leaders’ Summit on Malaria Elimination on June 16–17, 2025, in Bali.
Highlighting the theme of “Unity in Action, Towards Zero Malaria,” the summit brought together over 250 participants, including political leaders, health ministers, global health institutions, and technical experts, to reaffirm the region’s collective commitment to eliminate malaria by 2030.
