Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Alms Agency (Baznas) forged a collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (PMK) to utilize alms for empowering women and children from economically disadvantaged families.

The two institutions formalized their partnership through a memorandum of understanding signed in Jakarta on Tuesday (June 17, 2025).

"It is crucial to make the most of the potential of Islamic philanthropic funds to empower women and children," Baznas Head Noor Achmad remarked, as cited in a statement here on Wednesday.

Acknowledging the importance of public contribution, he emphasized Baznas' eagerness to leverage the philanthropic funds and assets it collects and manages to support the PMK Ministry's initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of families in need.

He affirmed that his agency is committed to collecting more zakat (Islamic alms) to empower vulnerable groups, including women and children.

"We are determined to dedicate what we collect to the welfare of Indonesian families," he affirmed.

PMK Coordinating Minister Pratikno welcomed the new collaboration and highlighted the importance of prudently leveraging advanced technology, such as artificial intelligence, to support human development.

Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Minister Arifah Fauzi, who also attended the signing, commended the partnership, describing it as a strategic step ahead of this year’s National Family Day on June 29.

"We need cross-sectoral cooperation like this to empower women, protect children, and move closer to the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision," she affirmed.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development Ratu Isyana Bagoes Oka stressed the importance of helping the younger generation build stronger character, asserting that quality youth from resilient families are key to Indonesia's golden era.

"Without resilient families, it will be difficult for us to produce superior human resources. Therefore, this collaboration should spark a national movement rather than being a mere symbolic act," she emphasized.
