Jakarta (ANTARA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has described Indonesia as one of Russia's key partners in the Asia-Pacific region and one of its largest trading partners in Southeast Asia.

He made the statement during a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Constantine Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday.

"I want to emphasize that Indonesia is a key partner for the Russian Federation in the Asia-Pacific region. Our bilateral relations have traditionally developed based on trust and friendship," Putin said, as seen in a YouTube broadcast early Friday.

He also noted that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-Russia diplomatic relations.

Putin said he and President Prabowo held constructive discussions on bilateral cooperation and international issues during their meeting.

Putin highlighted that trade between the two countries reached US$4.3 billion in 2024, underscoring Indonesia's role as one of Russia’s top trade partners in Southeast Asia.

"In the first four months of this year alone, our trade volume has increased by 40 percent," he added.

He also confirmed Russia’s plans to expand wheat exports to Indonesia and explore additional agricultural export opportunities.

President Prabowo is currently in St. Petersburg for a state visit that began on June 18. Prior to his meeting with Putin, he laid a wreath at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery to honor the victims of the Siege of Leningrad.

On Friday, June 20, Prabowo is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025, which gathers heads of state and global economic stakeholders.
