St. Petersburg (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia is open to increasing the number of direct flights from Russia to various cities in Indonesia.

"We are opening opportunities for increased flights, not only to Bali but also to other cities in Indonesia," he remarked during a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg on Thursday.

Prabowo made this statement as a follow-up to his previous talks with President Putin during their meeting in July 2024 before his inauguration as President of Indonesia.

During that meeting, Putin expressed interest in opening direct flights from Russia to Indonesia.

Prabowo noted that currently, Russia's largest airline operates direct Moscow-Bali flights thrice a week. During the winter season, the frequency increases to four times a week.

Meanwhile, President Putin underlined that both Russia and Indonesia continue efforts to streamline tourist travel between their countries.

He noted that in addition to restoring direct flights from Moscow to Bali, the Russian Honorary Consulate was opened in Bali in January 2025.

President Prabowo described his meeting with Putin as warm and productive, stating that the two countries discussed cooperation in various sectors, including trade and investment.

President Prabowo is on a visit to St. Petersburg on June 18-20, during which he is scheduled to meet President Putin on Thursday and attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 on Friday.
