Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government will relocate residences and restore relevant facilities for the people of Purwakarta who are impacted by the landslide and ground subsidence in Pasirmunjul Village, Sukatani, Purwakarta District, West Java.

"Relocation is necessary because, according to geological assessment, the place is no longer safe for habitation. No temporary residences, they are made as permanent residences right away," Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno said in a statement here on Friday.

The decision was taken after Pratikno and several other officials went to review the site of the disaster.

The Social Affairs Ministry will formulate the schematics to support the development of residences.

Pratikno also mentioned that the Center for Vulcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) will designate a safe zone that will become the area for relocation.

He mentioned that the majority of victims have taken shelter in their relatives' homes. However, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Social Affairs Ministry, and the regional government will still coordinate in order to meet the refugees' basic needs.

In the same statement, Head of PVMBG Hadi Wijaya said that the decision to relocate is deemed necessary, given the significant expanse of land that moved in the disaster.

"For the time being, it is final. From 2 hectares to 10 hectares, it must be relocated completely," Wijaya remarked.

Moreover, Head of BNPB Suharyanto ensured that people who are affected by the phenomenon have had their basic needs met.

As for relocation, Suharyanto added, it can be done either independently on land owned individually by the refugees or through centralized efforts, such as those hosted by the government, as long as the designated area is deemed safe by PVMBG.

Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono said that his administration will also offer the utmost assistance in post-disaster relief, particularly in housing development for the victims.

"For those heavily damaged, we will help with some Rp20 million (USD 1,218). As for those moderately damaged (we give) Rp10 million (USD609,19). The mild ones, some Rp1 million to Rp5 million (USD60-304)," Priyono said.

He added that the ministry will further help by giving Rp 3 million (USD182) worth of household appliances per house.

Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti added, saying there will be efforts to restore the infrastructure, such as road and bridges, to ensure connectivity.
