Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is supporting efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of the tourism industry by striving to expand the tourism market and access to capital for tourism businesses.

The Ministry of Tourism has implemented programs for the development of tourism businesses and capital access facilities to boost the tourism industry's competitiveness.

According to the ministry's statement here on Saturday, the programs that have been implemented include Tourism Village Business Development, the Wonderful Indonesia Scale-up Hub (WISH), Food Start Up Indonesia, and Wonderful Indonesia Gourmet (WIG).

The ministry's Deputy for Industry and Investment, Rizki Handayani, underlined the need for business players to adapt their products to meet market needs while opening the Communication Forum for Synergy of Development and Capital for Tourism Businesses in Jakarta on Thursday.

She also highlighted the importance of business players creating products that can encourage tourists to spend more and extend their stays.

Government data shows that the average spending of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia was US$1,391.85 per visit in 2024.

Most tourist spending, especially among foreigners remains concentrated on accommodation, food and beverages, souvenirs, entertainment, and local tour packages.

"Other sectors also hold significant potential to be developed, such as wellness, which includes spas and cosmetics," she remarked.

Handayani noted that taking a cue from South Korea and Thailand, the wellness industries in both countries are growing strongly and attracting substantial tourist spending.

She assessed that tourism business players should increase investment in sectors that can attract a large number of consumers.

For 2025, the Ministry of Tourism is targeting between 14.6 million and 16 million foreign tourist arrivals, higher than the 2024 target of 14.3 million.
