Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has delivered humanitarian aid to victims of floods and landslides in South Halmahera, North Maluku.

The announcement was made on Monday by Masryani Mansyur, Acting Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims at the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The ministry conducted an initial rapid assessment in coordination with the South Halmahera district government and established a public field kitchen in the Bacan Sub-district.

“We received direct instructions from the Minister of Social Affairs to promptly dispatch the necessary logistical assistance and ensure affected residents receive proper support,” Mansyur said.

The aid distributed included 200 mattresses, 200 blankets, and 100 packages of children’s necessities. Additional supplies comprised 200 roll-up tents, two multi-purpose tents, and 1,000 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes.

According to Mansyur, the supplies were dispatched on Sunday, June 22.

She added that residents were evacuated by boat to safer areas, and the total number of evacuees is still being recorded. At least 7,883 people have been affected by the disaster.

A landslide in South Bacan caused the collapse of a connecting bridge in Panamboang Village, while floodwaters in some areas remain as high as 1–2 meters.

The local government has established evacuation centers at several locations, including a school building and a government office hall.

The flooding has affected six villages: Amasing Kali, Amasing Kota, North Amasing Kota, West Amasing Kota, Labuha, and Panamboang—the latter also impacted by landslides.
