Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto exchanged views on bilateral relations and global developments during a phone call with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, who took office earlier this month.

The conversation took place on Monday evening (June 23), according to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, who shared the information on Tuesday.

"The two leaders exchanged views regarding the global situation and agreed to continue and strengthen their bilateral partnership," read a statement posted on the Cabinet Secretariat’s official Instagram account.

During the call, President Lee thanked Prabowo for his congratulatory letter following his electoral victory on June 3, 2025, and his swift inauguration the following day. He also expressed his intention to make a state visit and meet his Indonesian counterpart in person soon.

Cabinet Secretary Wijaya highlighted South Korea—officially the Republic of Korea—as one of Indonesia’s key partners in trade and investment, with bilateral ties showing consistent progress across various sectors.

On June 24, Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti called on Indonesian and South Korean businesses to seize the opportunities created by the Indonesia–Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK-CEPA).

The agreement, which came into effect on January 1, 2023, eliminates tariffs on more than 90 percent of traded goods and lays the foundation for deeper cooperation in strategic areas.

Indonesia and South Korea also share economic ties through the ASEAN–Korea Free Trade Agreement (AKFTA), in force since July 1, 2007, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which began on January 2, 2023.
