These Indonesian workers, employed by a subsidiary of the Indonesian energy giant Pertamina at the West Qurna 1 oil field, about 65 km northwest of Basra, were gradually evacuated by car to Kuwait on June 19.
"They were then flown back home and arrived safely in Jakarta on June 23," PIEP's Acting President Director, Julius Wiratno, noted in a press statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
For the evacuation mission, PIEP closely coordinated with various parties, including the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Indonesian embassies in Iraq and Kuwait, as well as the Kuwait Embassy in Jakarta, he stated.
In addition, PIEP continues to monitor the geopolitical situation near its operating regions in Aljazair and Iraq, including the West Qurna 1 oil field in Basra. which it jointly operates with PetroChina, he remarked.
Tensions in the Mideast escalated after Israel launched surprise attacks on Iran's nuclear and military facilities on June 13. In response, Iran retaliated with missile strikes on Israeli targets later that same day.
Iranian news agency IRNA quoted senior military official General Ahmad Vahidi as saying that the retaliatory attacks—called "Operation True Promise III"—would "continue for as long as necessary."
On June 22, the United States, a staunch supporter of Israel for decades, entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites.
Tehran then retaliated by attacking the US Al-Udeid military base in Qatar on Monday, June 23.
The 12-day Iran-Israel war ended on Tuesday, June 24, with a fragile ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump and later confirmed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
