He made the statement during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Integrated EV Battery Industry Ecosystem project by the ANTAM-IBC-CBL Consortium at Artha Industrial Hills (AIH) here on Sunday.
Other than the EV battery plant, Lahadalia said that a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) within the same industrial area will be developed. The BESS will serve to store electricity generated from solar panels.
“They are committed to developing BESS as well, so that all (components) are produced domestically,” he added.
On the same occasion, President Prabowo Subianto laid the first stone for the development of the integrated EV battery industry ecosystem project by the ANTAM-IBC-CBL Consortium.

The project covers upstream to downstream industrial processes, consisting of six integrated sub-projects developed by state mining company ANTAM, Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), and a consortium of CATL, Brunp, and Lygend (CBL).
Five of the sub-projects are being developed in East Halmahera, North Maluku, while one is located in Karawang.
The Karawang battery plant, occupying 43 hectares of land, is operated by PT Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia Battery (CATIB), a collaboration between IBC and CBL, a subsidiary of global battery giant CATL.
The plant is expected to have an initial capacity of producing 6.9 GWh in its first phase and reach 15 GWh in the second phase. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence by the end of 2026.
The project includes a hydrometallurgical smelter producing 55 thousand tons of Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate annually by 2028, a plant for Nickel Cobalt Manganese (NCM) with a capacity of 30 thousand tons per year by 2028, and a battery recycling facility to produce 20 thousand tons of sulfate metals and lithium carbonate annually by 2031.
