Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry is partnering with several universities, including Padjadjaran University (Unpad), to accelerate the transition to a green industrial sector.

This initiative supports national targets of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 and a net-zero industrial sector by 2050, Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza said in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday.

He emphasized that universities play a vital role in strengthening the green industry ecosystem, encouraging students to contribute through innovation and by raising awareness about sustainable industrial practices.

"Our goal is to increase awareness and involvement among universities and all stakeholders in AIGIS (Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit)," Riza stated.

He added that the push to develop environmentally friendly industries should begin on campuses, as students’ ideas and enthusiasm are key to generating long-term solutions.

The Ministry of Industry hosts AIGIS annually to promote the transition to sustainable industrial practices. This year’s summit is scheduled for August 2025.

Andi Rizaldi, head of the ministry’s Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), said many industry players have already initiated green transformation efforts — some voluntarily, others in response to global market demands.

He added that collaborating with universities is expected to expand awareness and speed up the transition of domestic industries, thereby increasing participation in the green economy.

Unpad Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Zahrotul Rusyda Hinduan, affirmed the university’s support for green industry development through education and research.

She noted that public awareness is essential for shifting community behavior toward greener lifestyles and business practices.

"We hope for continued collaboration with both industry and government to support students’ research and innovation in the green industry," she said.

Unpad is also promoting student innovation through competitions and scientific forums designed to generate applicable and adaptive solutions for the evolving industrial landscape.
