Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) Ahmad Haikal Hasan stressed that the halal industry is one of the driving forces in the national economy.

"The global halal industry is growing rapidly, along with a large halal potential that continues to grow. The halal economic sector is one of the important sectors for strengthening the national economy," he remarked in a statement on Wednesday.

He noted that Indonesia must capitalize on this opportunity by fostering halal-oriented practices among business actors and the community.

To achieve this halal discipline, Hasan emphasized the importance of collaboration in enhancing halal literacy.

He highlighted that halal requirements have evolved into a universally recognized standard, applicable to everyone regardless of ethnicity, religion, race, and nation.

"Halal has become a symbol of quality, health, safety, and product assurance. Halal is not religion only. Halal represents a lifestyle and a symbol of modern civilization with its universal value," Hasan stated.

In the era of digital communication, he also encouraged the younger generation, including students, to utilize their knowledge in providing education on halal product guarantees for the wider community.

"Students certainly play an important role, as a driving force in halal literacy," he stressed.

These efforts can take various forms, such as helping to disseminate information and educational materials from the government.

"This can also be achieved through a concrete role in the halal product guarantee (JPH) ecosystem, such as by becoming a Halal Product Process Companion (P3H)," he explained.

Earlier, the agency had signed a memorandum of understanding with New Zealand for mutual recognition of each other’s halal certification systems.

Hasan believes the agreement will facilitate smoother and more efficient trade of halal products between Indonesia and New Zealand. He also expressed hope that it would boost productivity and bring mutual benefits.
