Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri met with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to discuss enhancing trade between the two countries.

During the bilateral meeting held in Wellington, New Zealand, on Tuesday, Putri emphasized the importance of long-term cooperation between Indonesia and New Zealand, not only in trade and investment but also in the fields of education, innovation, and cultural diplomacy.

"We aim to improve bilateral relations between the two countries through a shared commitment to developing inclusive and sustainable regional cooperation," the deputy minister noted in a statement on Wednesday.

During the visit, Putri also received the Prime Minister's Fellowship for ASEAN award from the New Zealand government.

PM Luxon presented the award to several figures in recognition of their leadership in the ASEAN region.

"This is also an acknowledgment of Indonesia's efforts in strengthening regional relations, inclusive trade, and sustainable development in Southeast Asia," Putri said.

She noted that total trade between the two countries in 2024 reached US$1.9 billion.

She also expressed hope that the Indonesia–New Zealand Comprehensive Partnership Plan of Action (PoA) 2025–2029 would increase trade between the two nations to US$3.6 billion.

According to the statement, Indonesia's exports grew by 15 percent to US$680 million, while imports from New Zealand rose by 8.97 percent to US$1.24 billion.

New Zealand is Indonesia's 36th-largest export partner and 27th-largest source of imports.

During the meeting, the deputy minister also reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to completing the ratification process of the AANZFTA Second Protocol in the third quarter of 2025.

This protocol is expected to provide concrete benefits, especially for the "UMKM Bisa Ekspor" program as a national priority.

Putri also highlighted the significant export potential in the creative industry sector, particularly in areas prioritizing sustainability and renewable energy technology.

She further discussed Indonesia's accession process to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Indonesia hopes to establish an Accession Working Group (AWG) with CPTPP member countries, with full support from New Zealand as the depository country.

Additionally, Indonesia reiterated its commitment to completing the accession process to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) by 2027.

"We expect deepened collaboration to support economic growth in both countries and to strengthen Indonesia's position in the global value chain," she concluded.
