The signing took place during a high-level bilateral meeting held as part of President Prabowo’s state visit to Saudi Arabia at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah on Wednesday (July 2).
This meeting marked a strategic milestone in bilateral ties, establishing the High Coordination Council platform.
During the visit, President Prabowo and Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a one-on-one meeting, followed by a bilateral session with delegations from both countries to discuss key issues of mutual concern.
The two leaders also officially launched the inaugural session of the High Council and signed the MoM, which outlines its governance framework.
This framework will serve as an institutional reference for the council, to be jointly coordinated by the respective foreign ministers of both nations.
The signing of this MoM signifies a monumental achievement, solidifying Indonesia’s role as a strategic partner for Saudi Arabia in Southeast Asia.
Notably, this High Council format has also been adopted by Saudi Arabia in its strategic partnerships with the United States and China.
The historic event concluded with a state banquet hosted by MBS in honor of President Prabowo.
The visit marked a pivotal moment in Indonesia’s new proactive diplomacy within the geopolitical and economic landscape of the Islamic world.
The Indonesian delegation comprised Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/CEO of Danantara Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Indonesian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Abdul Aziz Ahmad, and Hajj Fund Management Agency Head M.
